Description

Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Med/Surg Telemetry RN with potential to float to units J1-2, J33, and Emergency Department caring for the same patient population.
  • Rotating shifts: Day (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) and Night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 12-hour shifts, 48 hours per week.
  • Facility does not accommodate block scheduling for 48-hour contracts.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • ECG rhythm recognition test and medication safety exam (SafeMedicate) required during orientation; passing scores mandatory.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Telemetry experience of at least 1.5 years, with recent telemetry experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIHSS Stroke Certification

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Background check including FCRA-compliant 7-year search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required prior to start and updated annually. Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and results must be current within 12 months. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Primary source verification of RN license and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions; latex allergy notification required if applicable.
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months of start and updated annually; PAPRs not provided for facial hair failure without approved exemption.
  • Immunizations and health documentation required:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual TB questionnaire if history positive
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Hepatitis B – titer, series, or declination accepted with agency-approved exemptions
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted)
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually; instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online onboarding modules prior to start; modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
  • SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for medication competency exam.
  • Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) required at orientation with minimum passing scores (90% medication, 80% ECG). Retakes allowed with remediation.
  • Modules and onboarding typically take multiple days; candidates must complete all before clearance to start.

References & Employment History

  • Two professional references required from employment within one year of start, from a manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (co-worker references not accepted).
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with a minimum of 2 years clinical practice in an acute care setting similar to the assignment.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with a gap of less than 6 months since their most recent contract at this facility may be exempt from some orientation exams and module requirements.
  • Name on all documents (license, ID, work order) must match legal name; name changes must be updated through proper channels.
  • Facility reserves the right to rotate shifts to meet operational needs but will attempt to honor preferred shifts.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs with recent specialty experience and valid Ohio licensure seeking a travel contract with a reputable healthcare facility.
