Description

Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry
  • Shift: 3x12 hour rotation (Day: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM / Night: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratio: Able to manage 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio on MedSurg
  • Floating: Required
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • First Time Travelers: Accepted
  • Local Radius: Must live within 75 miles of the facility

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response including:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy: Peripheral line care and management
  • Respiratory care: Use of nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and non-invasive airway management
  • Adherence to isolation precautions
  • Care for acute stroke and neurological patients within an adjustable acuity care model

Facility & Unit Information

  • Acute Stroke Unit with 39 beds specializing in acute stroke and neurological disorders as well as acute medical patients
  • Tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal background check (felony checks)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
  • Education verification from primary source required (transcripts/diplomas if no verification on file)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask (N95) testing within 1 year, with acceptable models specified; PAPR accepted if failed
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with annual TB questionnaire as applicable
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year (not required annually)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

  • References: 2 references within 3 years (required for agency direct hires)
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • Annual skills checklist and competency exams as per specialty
  • Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background) required
  • State-specific checks including sex offender registry and Medicaid exclusion list within 30 days of start and monthly as applicable
