X-Ray Tech Travel/Contract Position

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM (40 hours/week)
Call Responsibility: One 8-hour call shift every 2 weeks; call shifts may occur on weekdays (4:00 PM – 12:00 AM or 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM) or weekends (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM, or 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM)


Job Requirements

  • Valid Radiology Technologist license in Virginia
  • ARRT certification
  • Minimum of 1 year of Radiology Technologist experience within the last year
  • Experience as an X-Ray Technician

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required for all candidates except certain non-clinical roles.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit assignment.
  • Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC, Chemotherapy, etc.) are specialty/unit dependent and should be confirmed with the recruiter or program manager.
  • Medication and competency exams required as applicable.

Background & Compliance Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including international searches if applicable.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days.
  • Education verification through a third-party vendor; official transcripts acceptable, photocopies of diplomas are not.
  • Fingerprinting required for certain units (e.g., Behavioral Health); facility will notify if needed.
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Registry check required only for Behavioral Health and specific units.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start attesting ability to meet job demands.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (Tdap after age 11) required; no exemptions allowed.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted).
  • Annual TB questionnaire if past positive TB test.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations accepted for measles.
  • Hepatitis B: Positive Hep B Surface Antibody titer required; if low/negative, additional antigen titer required. Declinations not accepted.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but will not hold up clearance.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (10/31–3/31); no exemptions or declinations accepted.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen including marijuana and fentanyl required within 2 months of start and updated annually.

Additional Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged.
  • Facility-specific compliance documents and screenings must be completed prior to start.
  • Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient nursing positions (informational for this role).
  • Radiation badge must be supplied by the facility for new candidates.
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required.
  • Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and updated annually as applicable.

Work Environment & Other Details

  • Workdays are Monday through Friday with a standard 8-hour day shift.
  • Call shifts are scheduled every two weeks and may include nights or weekends.
  • Candidates who have not previously worked as permanent staff at this facility are eligible for submission.

This position is ideal for radiology professionals with ARRT certification seeking a 13-week travel assignment in Virginia with day shifts and periodic call responsibilities. Familiarity with EPIC and Carestream equipment is advantageous.
