Description
Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Holyoke, Massachusetts
Contract Length: 8 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, includes 30-minute lunch)
Hours per Week: 48
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a dynamic, full-spectrum Emergency Department serving patients of all ages, predominantly adults.
- Work includes exposure to a locked behavioral health unit (12-bed capacity).
- Fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Massachusetts
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications required:
- ACLS
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- PALS
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
Patient Population
- All ages from birth through end of life, predominantly adults.
- Occasional pediatric patients; a Level 1 pediatric trauma center is nearby.
- Includes behavioral health patients in a locked unit.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Current physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) vaccine or signed declination.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines at least 28 days apart (declinations not accepted).
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines at least 28 days apart (declinations not accepted).
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer or signed declination.
- Negative TB test (2 negative PPDs, Tspot, or Qgold within 1 year) or chest x-ray if previously positive. TB questionnaire required if applicable.
- 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30).
Background and Screening
- Standard background check including SSN trace, county criminal, nationwide criminal, and Massachusetts statewide iCORI clearance (updated annually).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks must be done annually.
- Massachusetts Nurse Aide Registry Search required for all travelers in MA.
- Confidentiality agreement required.
Competency and Testing
- Pass/fail testing on EKG and medication knowledge required before orientation (failure after two attempts results in contract cancellation).
- Additional EKG test administered at orientation.
- Medication and dysrhythmia competency exams required with minimum passing scores.

- Two professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 2 years of start).
