Description

Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Emergency Department with 101 beds
  • Patient ratios typically 4:1; up to 7:1 on behavioral holds
  • Staff includes techs (cardiac monitoring, internal processing, triage), unit clerks (days and nights)
  • Equipment used: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
  • Documentation system: Cerner
  • Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; must meet department needs
  • Floating: No floating outside ED; must float within all ED sections
  • Patient experience focus: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, continuous patient updates

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level II Trauma patients
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Certifications required before start date:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention Training)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Ability to work flexibly across all ED areas
  • Teamwork mentality with ability to coach and provide real-time feedback

  • Dress code: Navy scrubs required
  • Attendance policy provided on day one

Additional Information

  • High-volume ED with over 100,000 visits annually
  • Exposure to advanced procedures and technology in a busy trauma and stroke center
  • Previous experience with the hospital system preferred but not required

Shift & Hours

  • 36 hours per week
  • Scheduling includes every other weekend coverage

This position offers an opportunity to work in a nationally recognized hospital with Magnet® designation and multiple safety and quality awards, providing care in a Level II trauma and comprehensive stroke center environment.
