Job Opportunity: Educator (Registered Nurse)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 5x8 hours (7:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 40 hours
Job Description
- Role: CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) RN Educator
- Responsibilities include educating and supporting staff in a large cardiovascular program that handles transplants, VADs (ventricular assist devices), heart failure, aortic work, robotic surgery, and possibly congenital heart surgery.
- Must have strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Expected to have experience creating competencies and knowledge of standards.
- Work location within a 60-mile travel radius.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the District of Columbia
- Minimum of 3 years of CVOR experience, with CVOR experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Successful completion of SPT (Surgical Process Training)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Prior educator experience
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
- Ongoing monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Employment History:
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps.
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least two years of experience within the last three years.
- Drug Screening:
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana).
- Health Requirements:
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B.
- Tdap vaccine within the last 10 years preferred.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- N95 fit test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed).
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher) within 3 years of start.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with specific scoring requirements, updated annually, required for cardiac and critical care specialties.
- Other unit-specific certifications as applicable (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) based on unit assignment.
Additional Notes
- Valid driver’s license required if driving on behalf of the employer is an essential job function.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start date is mandatory.
- Annual acknowledgment of safety manual required.
This position is ideal for an experienced CVOR RN with strong perioperative skills, prior travel experience, and a commitment to education and standards in a high-acuity cardiovascular surgical environment.
