Description

Pediatrics Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Hours per week: 36 hours
  • Patient Population: Ages 0-17, medical surgical and hematology/oncology patients
  • Unit Target Ratios: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
  • Call Requirement: None
  • Float Requirement: Yes, float to PICU and NICU units
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling
  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours
  • Hospital Orientation: Mandatory classes during week one
  • Systems Used: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR
  • Scrubs: Not provided; recommended fun kid tops & navy pants

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric medical-surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Pediatric experience, including medical-surgical and hematology/oncology patient care
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Ability to administer chemotherapy

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks: Must be completed within 90 days prior to start, including local, federal, and sex offender searches, and education verification for highest degree earned
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
    • Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) within 1 year
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy
    • Required immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must pass with 82% or higher)
  • References: Two professional references within three years (not required for non-clinical)
  • Employment Application: Must be uploaded prior to start

Orientation and Training

  • Completion of hospital orientation classes during the first week is mandatory
  • Unit orientation lasts 24 hours
  • Must complete facility-specific education modules including medication safety and annual compliance training
  • Additional training may include crisis prevention (CPI/MOAB) if applicable

Additional Notes

  • No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; excessive call-offs or RTO may result in cancellation
  • Badge photo must be submitted immediately after signing contract to avoid start delays; specific photo requirements apply (passport style, white background, business attire)
  • Float to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) required
  • Facility requires completion of various facility-specific documents such as confidentiality agreement, dress code acknowledgment, and hospital policies acknowledgment

This position is ideal for experienced pediatric RNs seeking a travel contract with night shifts and a diverse pediatric patient population including oncology cases.
