Pediatrics Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Charlotte, North Carolina


Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour day shifts (06:45 AM - 07:15 PM), 36 hours per week
  • Patient Population: Pediatric patients ages 0-17, including medical surgical and hematology/oncology cases
  • Unit Float Requirement: Yes, float to PICU and NICU
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Call Requirement: None
  • Target Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours
  • Hospital Orientation: Mandatory attendance for classes during the first week
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling
  • Unit Systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR
  • Scrubs: Not provided; recommended attire is fun kid tops and navy pants

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric medical-surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Pediatric experience, including medical-surgical and hematology/oncology patient care
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Ability to administer chemotherapy

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • Background checks including local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree earned
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (negative 10-panel urine drug screen)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (within 30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal titer
    • Hepatitis B: titer or vaccination series; facility-specific declination form required if titer negative/equivocal
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (mask required if exempt)
  • TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, clear chest x-ray within 5 years and physician-signed TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
  • Annual compliance and medication safety training required
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year (required for clinical candidates)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 72 hours of start (must score 82% or higher)

Additional Job Expectations

  • No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
  • Must be available for hospital orientation classes during the first week
  • Must complete facility-specific education modules and sign confidentiality and compliance agreements
  • Float to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as needed
  • Must comply with facility dress code and badge photo requirements (passport-style photo on white background, business attire)

References and Documentation

  • Two professional references within three years required for travel and acute care positions
  • Employment application and skills checklist must be uploaded prior to start
  • Performance evaluation required if worked with the agency over one year
  • Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, education roster, and compliance training must be completed

This position offers an opportunity to work in a pediatric medical-surgical and hematology/oncology unit with a supportive team environment and a structured orientation process. It is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience, including first-time travel nurses who meet the experience requirement.
