Registered Nurse (LTC) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Lansing, New York
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Shift: Day (4 shifts of 10 hours each, 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 40

Job Summary

Provide nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with a systematic problem-solving approach to deliver comprehensive nursing care. Work within a juvenile correctional setting, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Participate as a member of the facility’s medical treatment team.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain general medical inventory, including controlled substances
• Conduct medication administration
• Review and evaluate nursing intervention plans related to youth health conditions
• Ensure nursing interventions align with comprehensive treatment plans
• Participate in staff trainings
• Prepare required clinical and administrative reports
• Maintain infection control standards

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum of 1 year of Long Term Care nursing experience within the last year
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background check with fingerprinting (to be completed onsite unless otherwise specified)
• Background check includes Social Security trace, county searches, nationwide search, and sex offender registry
• New York Statewide Central Registry clearance
• New York State Staff Exclusion List clearance
• Submission of 2 professional references

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year prior to start date
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months prior to start (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD accepted)
• Annual completion of TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test)
• Documentation of vaccination or immunity titers for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (vaccination, titers, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination for 2025-26 season
• COVID-19 vaccine booster preferred but not required
• 9-panel drug test within 1 year prior to start date
