Description

Job Opportunity: Critical Care Registered Nurse (ICU)

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Contractor (Travel Nurse)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour night shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Patient Ratio: RN 1:2 (acuity based)

Unit and Patient Population

  • ICU on 2nd Floor, Level III Trauma Center with 17 ICU beds
  • Patient types include:
    • General: COVID, sepsis, alcohol use disorder, IV drug abuse, overdose, suicidal ideation, delirium, gastrointestinal bleeding, stroke with TPA, acute renal failure
    • Surgical: general surgery, open abdomen, orthopedic (total joints), ENT, OB/GYN
    • Cardiac/Vascular: femoral-popliteal bypass, CABG, valve surgeries, post-cardiac catheterization (radial approach), abdominal aortic aneurysm, amputations
  • No complex neuro patients post TNK/TPA

Required Qualifications

  • License: Valid RN license
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years ICU experience required (preference for CRRT experience with NxStage)
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS preferred
  • Skills:
    • Ventilator and tracheostomy management
    • Invasive line management (arterial line, central venous pressure line, Swan-Ganz catheter)
    • Management of drains, tubes, Foley catheters, chest tubes
    • Post-surgical recovery and post-cardiac cath experience
    • Experience with continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH), balloon pumps, and CRRT (NxStage)
    • Fresh heart experience preferred

Orientation and Support

  • 1 day orientation including:
    • Meeting with educator for badge access, computer-based learning, and login setup
    • Meet and greet with nurse manager
    • Remainder of first shift with a preceptor
  • Unit support includes:
    • Charge nurse (occasional patient assignment)
    • Unit secretary (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
    • 24/7 intensivist coverage
    • ICU-specific pharmacist (day shift)
    • Respiratory therapist 24/7
    • Phlebotomy team for peripheral draws
    • Educator available
    • Bedside telemetry monitoring

Equipment and Systems

  • Charting system: EPIC (preferred)
  • Medication and supply systems: Alaris infusion pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing

Floating Assignments

  • May float to intermediate units (1:3 ratio), medical-surgical units, emergency department boarding (1:4 ratio), and observation units (1:4 ratio)
  • Travelers will float first

COVID-19 and PPE

  • COVID vaccine required
  • N95 masks and PAPRs provided
  • Adequate PPE supplied

Scheduling and Other Information

  • Weekend rotation every other weekend
  • Return to office (RTO) pending manager approval
  • No on-call duties
  • Scrub color: Any color allowed except camouflage, denim, or hoodies
  • Free parking available
  • More than two sick calls may lead to contract evaluation and possible termination
