Description
Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST) - Travel/Contract
Location: Tyler, Texas
Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM (8 hours/day, 40 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in Surgical Services with focus on heavy Orthopedics, General Surgery, Urology, plus Vascular, Robotic, Neurosurgery, and some Ophthalmology cases.
- No heart or transplant surgeries.
- Facility is a Level 1 trauma center.
- On-call responsibilities included.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year.
- Certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) certification
- Must hold a current, verifiable state license appropriate for Surgical Tech.
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID required.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Complete 7-year background check including SS trace, county searches, nationwide checks, sex offender registry, and education verification.
- E-Verify or attestation required depending on candidate type.
- Education verification mandatory; transcripts or diplomas accepted as temporary proof if needed.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start date, must be renewed annually.
- Negative 2-step TB test (PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; if positive, additional documentation required.
- Required immunizations/vaccinations with valid documentation (no history-only records accepted):
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Varicella (or documented history of chickenpox signed by MD/DO)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start.
Additional Requirements
- Unit-specific skills checklist required annually.
- Work history verification for the past 7 years.
- Completion of employment application/resume submission.
- Photo headshot for badge issuance.
- Acknowledgement of orientation safety manual and HIPAA compliance.
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable.
- Color blindness test required.
Restrictions
- Candidates residing in the following Texas counties are not eligible for this travel contract: Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris.
This position offers a structured day shift with a focus on diverse surgical cases in a high-acuity trauma center environment, requiring solid surgical tech experience and multiple certifications.
