ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Float position covering all ICU and PCU units; must be comfortable working across these areas.
• Night shift schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM). Option for 4 shifts per week by request.
• Staffing needs re-evaluated every 4 hours; floating 2-3 times per shift possible.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block.
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract.
• Charting system: EPIC experience required.
• Accepts first-time travelers and local candidates within radius rules.
• Pending license accepted only if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN license required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia.
• Minimum of 1 year ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year.
• Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS issued by the American Heart Association, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
• Clinical skills including:

  • Central/PICC line care.
  • BiPAP and CPAP management.
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
  • Adherence to IV insulin protocols.
• Experience with EPIC electronic charting system.

Unit Details

• PCU nurse-to-patient ratio: approximately 1:5
• ICU nurse-to-patient ratio: approximately 1:2

Additional Requirements & Information

• Must provide a valid Driver’s License/State ID within 48 hours of signing; address must comply with radius rules (within 100 miles of facility).
• Background check: 7-year history required within 1 year of start date; must cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
• E-Verify or attestation required.
• Education verification of highest earned degree required; transcript or diploma may be requested.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually.
• Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
• Two clinical references required.
• Complete employment application/resume and annual skills checklist.
• Must complete facility-specific compliance, confidentiality, and orientation paperwork prior to start.
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
• All scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) must be submitted with application.
