Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Medical Surgical

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 4x12 hour shifts, rotating Day (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) and Night (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Available to work every other holiday, if needed

Required Qualifications

• Valid LPN / LVN license in New York (NY is not a Compact state; pending licenses not accepted)
• Minimum of 2 years LPN / LVN experience, including experience within the last year
• Medical-Surgical nursing experience
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Clinical Skills

• Ability to manage own patient assignment with RN support
• Blood product administration
• Central line, peripheral line, PICC line care/management
• Phlebotomy, IV start and maintenance
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen administration and tanks
• Tracheostomy care/management
• Feeding tube care/management
• Heparin protocols
• Pacemaker (temporary and permanent) care
• Telemetry monitoring on unit
• Use of rapid response/code teams
• Isolation precautions
• Wound care including wound vac
• Experience with orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements, surgical drains

Unit and Work Environment

• Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:5–6
• Unit serves complex care patients including medicine, orthopedic overflow, and long-term complex cases
• Floating within skillset required
• Uniform: Navy blue and white scrub colors

Additional Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, national sex offender registry, education verification, and eligibility to work in the U.S.
• Various certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)
• Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as required
• Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations
• Health requirements to be completed within 5 days of contract signing, including:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year)
  • Fit mask test (annual)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
  • Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

• First-time travelers accepted
• Locals accepted with adjusted pay rate
• Call-off policy allows client to cancel up to three shifts during the contract without penalty
