Description

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Beaufort, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Unit: 5T – 22 bed adult Medical Surgical Oncology unit
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Must live more than 50 miles from the facility.
  • Nurses with 2 years of Medical Surgical experience required.
  • Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required; Medical Surgical nurses will float to PCU as needed.
  • First-time travelers accepted.
  • Must already hold a South Carolina nursing license.
  • Shift schedule includes weekdays, every other weekend, float, and holidays as needed.
  • Skills required: IV start.
  • Certification required: BCLS.
  • Electronic Medical Record system used: Meditech.
  • Scrubs are not provided; dress code colors are royal blue/white.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Stepdown unit experience.
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during work hours.
  • Criminal background check within 6 months (or within 30 days for new candidates starting after 12/14/25).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal.
  • Primary source verification of nursing license (NURSYS verification required).
  • Completion of facility-specific Relias training modules (~81 modules) prior to first shift.
  • Badge photo meeting facility standards required.
  • Signed job description and confidentiality agreements.
  • Employee health questionnaire and serial TB screening on file.
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands.
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (titers or vaccines with boosters or declination)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccine series; declination form if negative)
    • Varicella (titer or vaccines with boosters or declination)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination form required year-round
    • COVID vaccination or declination form required
  • Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 1 year) or annual TB questionnaire on file.
  • Drug testing: 10-panel within 6 months (or 30 days for new candidates after 12/14/25); instant tests not accepted.
  • Proof of 2 clinical references.
  • Performance evaluation required if previously completed assignments through any agency.
  • Skills checklist updated annually.
  • Internal evaluation required if employed over 2 years.

Additional Notes

  • Facility is strict on documentation and compliance.
  • Candidates must be prepared for floating between Medical Surgical and PCU units.
  • Night shift schedule requires flexibility for weekends, holidays, and floating as needed.
