Description

Registered Nurse - PCU (Night Shift) - Indiana, Carmel

Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:30)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Weekend Work: Required
  • Charge Nurse: Must be willing and able to work charge shifts (typically 1–2 per week). Charge nurse usually not included in staffing except for call-ins or staffing challenges.
  • Floating: Clinician will float within scope to meet facility needs.
  • Holiday Work: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
  • Block Schedule: Open to discussion.
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted.
  • First Time Travelers: Limited acceptance; no more than 1 of 3 contracts can be first travel contract.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • PCU experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in Charge Nurse roles

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Must be completed within 90 days of start.
    • Includes 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level III.
    • Education verification required (may be pending at start).
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start date.
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (no instant tests).
  • Fit Mask Test: Fit test within 12 months of start with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95). On-site fit testing available only as last resort with prior approval.
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start.
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations or history accepted.
    • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended but not required.
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31) with no declinations accepted; medical or religious exemptions require approval.
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam required.
  • Color Blind Testing: Ishihara exam or equivalent online test with 100% minimum score.

Documentation and Orientation

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy required).
  • Official Transcript or Diploma showing degree and graduation date (may be pending at start).
  • Facility-specific forms and orientation packets must be completed prior to start, including:
    • Compliance checklist
    • Confidentiality agreement
    • Look of Assurance packet
    • Self-study orientation and test (required for this facility)
  • HIPAA Acknowledgement required.
  • Employment application must be current, include work history, and explain any gaps over 30 days within the last 7 years.

This position requires a dedicated Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of experience, willing to work night shifts with weekend and holiday requirements, and able to fulfill charge nurse duties as needed. Compliance with extensive health, background, and certification requirements is mandatory.
