Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Centralized Registry Float
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 (typically 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks)
Job Summary
- Provide general medical-surgical nursing care on Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary units.
- Float to other medical units as needed, focusing on areas with the greatest need.
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
- Care for a diverse patient population with chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders.
- Assist patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation).
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care nursing.
- At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (600+ beds).
- Valid Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20).
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Skills and Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
- Utilize electronic health records (Epic) and medical equipment including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps/tubes, chest tubes, telemetry monitors, and pyxis machines.
- Manage IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips, and use devices for VTE prevention (SCDs).
- Document care accurately using Epic electronic charting.
Orientation and Training
- Complete an 8-hour non-billable Jump Start orientation: 1 day general hospital orientation plus approximately 5 days nursing orientation including Epic training.
- Returning clinicians within 12 months of last assignment are not eligible for non-billable orientation.
Additional Information
- Local clinicians (within 50 miles) are eligible for a rate adjustment.
- The client may cancel or call off up to 24 hours before the start of the 13-week assignment.
- Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs.
Work Environment
- General medical-surgical units with a wide range of patient diagnoses and acuity.
- Floating limited to other medical units only.
