Description

Registered Nurse - MICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Immediate start required, no later than June 29.
  • Holiday coverage required with flexibility; no return to office (RTO) in first two weeks.
  • Floating required between ICU and Med-Surg units based on census.
  • Patient ratios vary by acuity and unit:
    • ICU/PCU mix: 1:1 to 1:4
    • Ventilated patients: 1:2
    • High acuity (Cooling/CRRT): 1:1
    • Med-Surg: approximately 1:5-7
  • Typical patient diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation.
  • Special procedures performed: CRRT, hemodialysis, arterial line placement, central venous catheter placement, tracheostomy placement, chest tube placement.
  • Special equipment used: cooling machines, Bair Huggers, massive transfusion protocols, CRRT.
  • Average of 3 ventilated patients per day on unit.
  • ICU physicians may retain patients with low acuity, affecting nurse-to-patient ratios.
  • Weekend work every other weekend.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
