Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring at least 1 year of recent ICU experience, with night shift availability and a mix of ICU and PCU patient populations.
Details
- Works in a combined MICU/PCU environment within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure (HF), and A-fib
- Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1 for cooling/CRRT/high-acuity patients, 2:1 for vented patients, 3:1 for mixed ICU/PCU assignments, and up to 4:1 for PCU or general med/transfer-status patients
- Special procedures include CRRT, HD, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement
- Special equipment includes cooling machines, Bair Huggers, massive transfusion setups, and CRRT
- Unit averages approximately 3 vented patients per day
- Schedule: Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Required to work every other weekend
- Floating required to other ICU and Med/Surg units as census fluctuates; Med/Surg ratios are approximately 1:5–7
Requirements
- Active MI RN license required; pending MI license considered with a concrete ETA and proof of application at time of submission
- Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certifications required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent ICU experience required
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include dysrhythmia interpretation and management, multi-system organ failure care, IV insulin protocol administration, GI surgical patient care, chronic and acute renal failure management including CVVHD/CRRT, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care, continuous IV sedation, emergency and vasoactive/cardiac drip titration, CVA/acute stroke management, ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP support, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning
- Agency RNs float to Med/Surg units in rotation with staff MICU RNs as ICU census flexes
- Holiday coverage is required; flexibility with summer holidays is expected
- No RTO (requested time off) in the first two weeks of the assignment
- All RTO requests must be submitted prior to offer; any RTO submitted after the offer must be approved by the on-site manager
