Description
Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Ulm, Minnesota
Shift: Night, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 48 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Step Down Registered Nurse (SCU Charge RN)
- Charge nurse experience is required.
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- First-time travel nurses are not accepted.
- Must work every third weekend.
- Floating within scope of practice as needed.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
- Local candidates within a 100-mile radius are not accepted.
- Pending Minnesota license accepted.
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.

Equipment Experience
- Type: Critical Access Facility
- Trauma Level: Level 4 trauma center
- Total Staffed Beds: 19
- Charting System: Epic (Excellian)
- Parking: Free in any unrestricted space

Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 1 year required (7-year statewide MN search plus other checks).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year.
- Minnesota DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start; candidates cannot start with fingerprints pending unless a “more time needed” letter is provided.
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required.
- Mandatory immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) with no declinations accepted unless approved exemption (exemptions restrict patient care areas).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no exemptions for patient-facing roles.
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, proof of series, or signed declination required.
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no exemptions accepted.
- Seasonal Flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted).
- OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start for fit testing.
- Drug testing within 1 year required (9-panel acceptable).
Orientation and Training
- Completion of facility-specific preorientation online modules required within 72 hours of receiving login; modules take 3-9 hours depending on specialty.
- Modules must be completed before clearance to start.
- Annual skills checklist and medication/pharmacology competency exams required.
Additional Notes
- No on-call requirement.
- Badge photo (passport style) required within 48 hours of contract signing.
- Candidate may have up to 3 shifts canceled without penalty.
- Weekend requirement: every third weekend.
- Floating to other units as needed within scope of practice.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Minnesota
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Step Down nursing experience, with Step Down experience within the last year
- Experience in Charge nurse roles
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
Summary
This is a night shift travel contract position for a Step Down RN with charge experience, requiring a minimum of 2 years RN experience and multiple advanced certifications. The role involves working in a small critical access hospital with specialized procedures and equipment. Candidates must meet strict background, health, and training requirements and be prepared for a 13-week assignment with a fixed night schedule. Prior travel experience is required (first-timers not accepted).
