Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Ulm, Minnesota
Shift: Night, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 48 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Step Down Registered Nurse (SCU Charge RN)
• Charge nurse experience is required.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
• First-time travel nurses are not accepted.
• Must work every third weekend.
• Floating within scope of practice as needed.
• Block scheduling is not accommodated.
• Local candidates within a 100-mile radius are not accepted.
• Pending Minnesota license accepted.
• Return to office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.

• Type: Critical Access Facility
• Trauma Level: Level 4 trauma center
• Total Staffed Beds: 19
• Charting System: Epic (Excellian)
• Parking: Free in any unrestricted space

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background check within 1 year required (7-year statewide MN search plus other checks).
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year.
• Minnesota DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start; candidates cannot start with fingerprints pending unless a “more time needed” letter is provided.
• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required.
• Mandatory immunizations and health screenings:

  • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) with no declinations accepted unless approved exemption (exemptions restrict patient care areas).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no exemptions for patient-facing roles.
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, proof of series, or signed declination required.
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no exemptions accepted.
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted).
• OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start for fit testing.
• Drug testing within 1 year required (9-panel acceptable).

Orientation and Training

• Completion of facility-specific preorientation online modules required within 72 hours of receiving login; modules take 3-9 hours depending on specialty.
• Modules must be completed before clearance to start.
• Annual skills checklist and medication/pharmacology competency exams required.

Additional Notes

• No on-call requirement.
• Badge photo (passport style) required within 48 hours of contract signing.
• Candidate may have up to 3 shifts canceled without penalty.
• Weekend requirement: every third weekend.
• Floating to other units as needed within scope of practice.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Minnesota
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Step Down nursing experience, with Step Down experience within the last year
• Experience in Charge nurse roles
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
