Description

Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) - Night Shift

Location: Centreville, Illinois
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM), includes every other weekend and holidays
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Summary

The Behavioral Health RN manages and coordinates nursing care during client hospitalization, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN directs and is responsible for other personnel involved in client care and maintains professional accountability for all nursing care provided. This role involves working with clients aged 18 years and older.


Essential Functions

  • Organize and coordinate nursing care delivery for assigned clients.
  • Provide direct client care as needed, following department and organizational policies.
  • Make nursing assignments appropriate to employee skill levels.
  • Implement physician orders accurately and promptly, including medication administration and documentation.
  • Participate in emergency care and infection control procedures.
  • Conduct group therapies and participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning.
  • Monitor clients continuously for safety and harmful contraband.
  • Maintain a safe environment and comply with all safety procedures and policies.
  • Participate in orientation, in-service training, and departmental meetings.
  • Support process improvement activities and contribute to unit goal development.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with physicians and healthcare team members.
  • Adapt to changes in work assignments and environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality, privacy, safety, and security of clients.
  • Perform basic tasks with minimal supervision and demonstrate willingness to work toward department and organizational goals.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for 4-6 hours per shift.
  • Requires grasping, reaching, bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when assisting or turning clients.
  • Requires good body mechanics to prevent injury.
  • Requires regular talking and hearing, and concentrated attention.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience, with at least 1 year within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification.
  • Advanced Physical Skills (APS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred or equivalent years of experience.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and computer software (e.g., MS Office).

Additional Information

  • Must be able to adapt quickly to new methods and integrate them into job responsibilities.
  • Adheres to nursing staffing and scheduling policies, including use of overtime.
  • Supports organizational philosophy and demonstrates teamwork, courtesy, and respect.

This position requires a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse with strong clinical skills, crisis intervention certification, and the ability to work nights in a fast-paced behavioral health environment.
