Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Neuro Unit)
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Neuro unit with a focus on neurological patient care and general medicine
- Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:6
- Night shift (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45–7:15)
- Shift hours accepted: 36 or 48 hours per week
- Float requirement: Travelers float first
- Weekend requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (approximately every other weekend)
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and expected to work during catastrophic events or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Preferred Qualifications
- NIH Stroke Certification (annual completion preferred)
- Neuro experience preferred
- Experience or willingness to learn the charge nurse role
Orientation & Training
- Unit orientation: 24 hours
- Medication, documentation, and communication systems used: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
- Must complete required facility-specific education modules prior to start (approx. 8-10 hours for acute care)
- Must complete annual compliance and medication safety training
- Fit testing required (N95 mask or PAPR training acceptable)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, additional documentation required
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination)
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Must complete facility confidentiality agreement, hospital policies acknowledgment, and other required documents prior to start
- Photo for badge required (passport style, white background, business attire)
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, and sex offender registry within 90 days of start
- Education verification for highest degree earned specific to nursing profession
- North Carolina Division of Medical Assistance and NC Healthcare Personnel Registry searches within 90 days of start
- Employment application and references per agency standards
- May be required to work in multiple units or be reassigned mid-contract as needed
Notes
- No Return to Office (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
- Scrubs: Navy blue (not provided)
- Candidates must be prepared to work in a fast-paced neuro unit environment with a focus on teamwork and patient safety
