Description
Behavioral Health Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Binghamton, New York
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Job Details
- Shift Options:
- 2x12-hour shifts and 2x8-hour shifts
- Or 5x8-hour shifts (Evening shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)
- Weekly Hours: 40 hours
- Patient Load: Medication administration for up to 25 patients
- Responsibilities:
- Write shift notes and weekly/monthly nursing assessments
- Collaborate with other RNs and Mental Health Therapy Aides to maintain a therapeutic milieu
- One RN acts as charge nurse per unit; all RNs count toward core staffing
- Overtime and Shift Swapping:
- Overtime requires prior approval by nursing leadership
- Shift swaps require documented approval and completion of a formal request form
- Breaks:
- 30-minute meal breaks, cannot be combined with 15-minute breaks
- Breaks must be taken in non-patient areas; sleeping on the unit is prohibited
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background Check:
- Must be completed within 1 year prior to start date, covering last 7 years of residence/work/school
- Includes Social Security trace, county searches, nationwide search, and sex offender registry
- Fingerprinting:
- Criminal background check fingerprinting required and completed onsite
- Education Verification:
- Highest degree verification required; foreign degrees require equivalency evaluation by approved vendors
- Central Registry and Social Services Law Forms:
- Time-sensitive New York State Central Registry and Social Services Law 424/Child Abuse Statement forms must be completed immediately
- Medicaid Enrollment:
- Submission of Medicaid Enrollment Form including NPI number required prior to start
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start
- TB Testing:
- Negative QGold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 12 months prior to start; must be updated annually
- Immunizations or Titers Required:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (proof of vaccination or positive titer)
- Varicella (vaccination, titer, or documented disease history)
- Hepatitis B (vaccination, titer, or declination)
- Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (instant tests acceptable)
- Flu Vaccine or Declination: Required during flu season; mask required if declined
- COVID-19 Booster: Preferred but not required
