Description
Registered Nurse - Oncology (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit: Inpatient Oncology (28-bed adult acute care hematology/oncology) and 15-bed intermediate care Stem Cell Transplant Unit
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a specialized oncology unit including hematology/oncology and stem cell transplant patients.
- Must adhere to the facility’s float policy.
- Epic electronic health record experience required.
- Scheduling includes every other weekend and every other holiday off; time off approval up to 40 hours max.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year.
- Oncology certification in Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy (CHEMO) required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification (BSN preferred; ASN required if no BSN), and other standard screenings.
- Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccination (no exemptions allowed).
- 2-step TB test or equivalent (Qgold acceptable, Tspot not accepted). Chest X-ray if positive.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no declinations accepted for measles).
- Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or antigen titer if antibody is low/negative.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required (declination accepted but will not hold clearance).
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions).
- Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet physical demands of the position.
- Completion of facility-specific forms including professional appearance guidelines, release authorization, TB screening, and traveler compliance.
- Fingerprinting required for certain behavioral health assignments; otherwise may be required on a case-by-case basis.
Additional Notes
- Orientation includes pass/fail testing on cardiac rhythms for adult inpatient RN positions.
- Oncology RNs are exempt from the acknowledgment of pass/fail testing requirement.
- Facility may require additional certifications or training post-start (e.g., UVA education and clinical check-off for chemotherapy).
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required.
- Performance evaluations and skills checklists must be current if previously employed with the agency.
This position offers a specialized oncology nursing experience on a night shift with a defined nurse-to-patient ratio and requires strong clinical skills, oncology certification, and compliance with comprehensive health and background requirements.
