Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health

Location: Salem, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work in a Behavioral Health unit with 60 beds across three subunits:

  • AU1: up to 23 adult patients
  • AU2/ADOL: up to 8 adult patients and 8 adolescents
  • AU3: up to 14 adult patients
• Float to all units as needed
• Schedule includes every other weekend and rotating holidays
• Full-time core staff typically work three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours/week)
• Documentation system: MEDITECH
• Equipment used includes Quick Release Synthetic Restraints, EKG, glucometer, and standard communication devices

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Behavioral Health nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training

Unit Responsibilities & Procedures

• Observation rounds and patient monitoring
• Vital signs measurement
• Patient and belongings search
• Milieu management and safety
• Group therapy (educational)

Additional Information

• Dress code: Burgundy/Maroon scrubs required
• Expected to complete a Care Experience Module during onboarding
• Unit recognized as a Unit of Distinction for nursing excellence
• Staff tenure and experience contribute to a supportive work environment
