Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Perioperative Outpatient Surgical Center
Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 8-hour shifts, 6:15 AM – 2:45 PM, Monday through Friday
Schedule: No weekends, holidays, or on-call required
Job Description
- Assess and respond to patients' physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs through observation and interaction; act as a patient advocate.
- Utilize professional nursing skills and judgment to implement nursing care and address identified problems.
- Communicate patient assessments to appropriate team members to ensure coordinated care.
- Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic measures including labs, radiology, and EKG.
- Perform IV therapy.
- Transcribe and implement physicians' orders accurately and timely; efficiently admit patients to the surgical center.
- Document patient clinical records accurately and promptly via computer; ensure compliance with surgical procedures including site marking and anesthesiologist communication.
- Provide patient and family education.
- Manage supplies and equipment to control costs without compromising care.
- Assist with housekeeping duties such as cleaning and making beds as needed.
- When assigned to Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), assess and provide appropriate nursing care, maintain airway, monitor vital signs, manage pain medications, and consult with surgeons and anesthesiologists as needed.
- Evaluate patient status using discharge criteria to safely transition patients to Phase 2 recovery.
- Familiar with patient transfer procedures to medical centers.
- Function as a float nurse when needed, assisting staff to maintain workflow and coverage for breaks.
- Work in pain management and eye laser procedure rooms as assigned.
- Knowledgeable about anesthesia supplies; assist with nerve blocks; know locations of emergency carts and medications.
- Participate in committee meetings and contribute suggestions for improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of 2 years of perioperative nursing experience
- Perioperative nursing experience within the last year
