Description

Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Assignment on Stepdown unit with potential to float to related units caring for similar patient populations.
  • Rotating shifts on a 3x12-hour schedule (Day: 7:00am–7:30pm / Night: 7:00pm–7:30am). Shift rotation may be required to meet operational needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
  • Current certifications:
    • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS
    • NIHSS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions. Latex allergy notification required if applicable.
  • Fit mask (N95 3M 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months of start, updated annually. PAPRs require approval if mask fit fails due to facial hair.
  • Immunizations and testing:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if past positive, with annual TB questionnaire if applicable
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B – titer, series, or declination accepted with agency-approved exemptions
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require agency approval)
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.

Background and Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Comprehensive background check required prior to start, including FCRA-compliant 7-year search and education verification. Must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually. Must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite. Candidates may start with results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
  • Primary source verification of RN license and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
  • References: 2 professional references from within 1 year of start, from management or supervisory roles.

Orientation and Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online onboarding modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone).
  • Modules include safety, policies, and procedures; must be completed to receive badge and clearance to start.
  • Medication administration and ECG competency exams completed during orientation with required passing scores.
  • SafeMedicate prep materials provided before orientation exam.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with a gap of less than 6 months since their last assignment at this facility may be exempt from some orientation exams and module requirements.
  • Candidates must have legal name consistency across all documents.
  • Travel experience in Stepdown is accepted toward experience requirement; prior travel experience beyond this is not explicitly required.

Shift Details

  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours/week total).
  • Rotating day and night shifts as needed.

This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs with current Ohio licensure and required certifications, comfortable with rotating 12-hour shifts and working in a high-acuity progressive care environment.
