Description
Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Behavioral Health RN
- Unit: G1 Psych
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
- Block Scheduling: Optional
- Start Date: July 7, 2026
- Charting System: Must be proficient in EPIC
- Candidates must live more than 75 miles from the facility
- First-time travel nurses are accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York must be in hand before start
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum of 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Proficiency in EPIC electronic health record system
Certifications & Competencies (As Required by Unit)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – as required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – as required
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – as required
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – as required
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam – as required
- Color Blind Testing (one-time requirement)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- NIH Stroke Certification – as required
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID)
- 7-year criminal background check including felony, SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, and education verification from primary source
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, updated monthly
- Foreign education equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 past employments)
- References (2 within last 3 years) required for direct hire candidates
- State-specific checks including disciplinary action, sex offender registry, Medicaid exclusion list, and fingerprinting may be required for Behavioral Health units
Health & Immunization Requirements (Must be completed within 5 days of contract signing)
- Physical exam (within 1 year)
- Fit mask test (annual) – acceptable masks include Halyard duckbill 1870+, 1860 Regular, 1860 Small; PAPR accepted if fit test failed
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire annually
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl, heroin, opiates)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
- Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge must be a clear, passport-style photo with a solid background
- Facility-specific onboarding forms and attestations must be completed
- Fingerprinting and additional state-specific forms may be required for Behavioral Health assignments
- Candidates must complete all health-related lab work and documentation promptly after contract signing
Weekly Hours
- 36 hours per week (3 shifts x 12 hours)
