Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Neuro Unit)
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Neuro unit with a focus on neurological patient care within a general medicine setting
- Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:6
- Unit systems include Pyxis (medication), EPIC (documentation), and SBAR (communication)
- Float requirement: Travelers float first
- Night shift only (18:45 – 7:15), 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
- Weekend requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (approximately every other weekend)
- Orientation: 24 hours
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least 1 year of recent Med Surg experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Preferred Qualifications
- NIH Stroke Certification (annual completion if required)
- Neuro experience preferred
- Experience or willingness to learn charge nurse role
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts
- 36 or 48 hours per week; overtime only billed after 48 hours
- RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs may lead to cancellation
- Contract staff expected to participate in Storm/Hurricane Teams and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
- Possible mid-contract reassignment to centralized office or other units as needed
Orientation & Training Requirements
- Unit orientation: 24 hours
- Medication safety training and competency exam required prior to start
- Facility-specific education modules and compliance training required (may take 8-10 hours for acute care)
- Confidentiality agreement, hospital policies acknowledgment, and other facility-specific documents must be completed prior to start
- Candidates must complete Corp ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving credentials to avoid start delays
Dress Code & Uniform
- Scrubs: Navy blue (not provided)
Additional Notes
- First-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience not required
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel/per diem acute care RNs
- Must submit a passport-style photo on a solid white background for badge creation immediately after signing contract
- Candidates must be prepared for competency exams and possible remediation related to EKG and medication knowledge
- Radiation badge not required for this position
