Registered Nurse – Cardiac Cath Lab

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work in a Cardiac Cath Lab with 6 suites/labs.
• Average cases per day: 4-20 (1:1 nurse to case ratio).
• Shift: Days, 4 shifts per week, 9 hours per shift (36 hours/week).
• Orientation: 2-3 shifts (non-billable, 12 hours).
• Scrubs provided.

Patient Population & Procedures

• Common diagnoses: STEMI, NSTEMI, Heart Failure, congenital heart defects, TAVR, MitraClip, Peripheral interventions.
• Cath Lab is separate from Interventional Radiology (IR) and Electrophysiology (EP).

Responsibilities & Work Environment

• Ability to read cardiac strips required.
• Occasional titration of drips.
• Work with a team: 3-person regular cases (1 RN, 2 Cath Lab Techs), 4-person call teams.
• Cardiologists on call 24/7.
• Charge nurse available as resource and coordinator; nurse on call acts as charge nurse.
• No floating required; experience in IR is a plus but not mandatory.

Call & Scheduling Requirements

• 6-8 call shifts per month (primary and backup call).
• Weekend call every 6-7 weekends: starts Friday 5:30 pm to Monday 6:00 am (24-hour shifts, about once per month as backup circulator for emergent cases).
• Holiday call required (e.g., Easter backup call).
• Occasional overtime to complete emergent cases.

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Cardiac Cath Lab experience: minimum 2 years, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Ability to read cardiac strips
• Ability to titrate drips occasionally

Technology & Equipment

• EMR: EPIC.
• Monitors: GE and Philips.
• Additional software: McKesson.

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius.
• Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty.
