Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shifts, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
- Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
- Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Unit: Adult acute care, caring for patients with elective back surgeries, trauma, prostate cancer, gallbladders, cellulitis
- Floating: Required to float within skillset
- Additional Roles: May be required to work as charge nurse and precept new staff
- Charting System: EPIC experience required
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience, with recent experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience in charge nurse roles
- Proficient in the use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID with an address within 100 miles of the facility required within 48 hours of signing
- Background check covering 7 years of history, including education verification and various federal/state screenings, required within 1 year of start
- E-Verify or attestation required
- Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Fit test for mask within 1 year, updated annually (onsite fit testing possible if needed)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 1 year, updated annually; if past positive, clear chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire required
- Immunizations or positive titers required for: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination documentation or mask and declination form during flu season
- Two clinical references required
- Completed employment application/resume
- Annual skills checklist update required
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements prior to start
- Professional photo for badge required
Additional Notes
- Facility allows one call-off shift per 2 weeks
- Locals accepted under radius rule
- Candidate must review and acknowledge the contract staff orientation manual prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs)
- Must submit all scheduling requests with application
This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level I Trauma Center with Magnet designation, providing care in a teaching hospital environment with a diverse patient population.
