Description

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Night shift (18:45 – 07:15), 12-hour shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
  • Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6-7
  • Charge nurse role required for night travelers
  • Floating to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatient holding required
  • Assigned to every other weekend and must work holidays
  • May care for COVID-19 patients
  • Assigned to Inclement Weather Team and Storm/Hurricane Team; may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
  • Patient population: Adults and geriatrics, general medical/surgical patients, daily census ~43
  • Special procedures include insulin and heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, high flow oxygen, occasional short-term BiPAP (no additional training required)
  • No PCU level patients on this unit
  • Unit systems: PYXIS (medication), EPIC (documentation), SBAR (communication)
  • Unit orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Not provided; navy color required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience in charge nurse roles
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
