Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Emergency Department with 101 beds
• Patient ratios typically 4:1 (medical), up to 7:1 on behavioral holds
• Tech support available for cardiac monitoring, triage, and unit clerks
• Equipment includes Baxter pumps and GE monitors
• Documentation system: Cerner
• Scheduling: Every other weekend; no block scheduling; must meet department needs
• Floating: No floating outside ED; must float within all ED sections
• Patient experience focus: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, ongoing patient updates

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with ED experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications (required before start date):

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (Multi State Certification) (ABCP)
  • OEMS (Office of Emergency Medical Services) certification

Skills and Attributes

• Teamwork mentality with ability to coach and provide real-time feedback
• Flexibility to work across all areas of the Emergency Department
• Experience in a high-volume ED (>100,000 visits annually) preferred
• Previous experience with this hospital system preferred

Work Schedule and Dress Code

• 36 hours per week
• Uniform: Navy scrubs
• Attendance policy provided on day one
