Description
Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Call Requirement: 40-60 hours of call over a 6-week schedule
- Average Census: 70-80 patients
- Unit Beds: 24
- Special Equipment: DaVinci XI robotic system
- Patient Cases: Circulate, General, Orthopedic, Robotics, Gynecology, Thoracic, ENT, Oral, Urology, Whipple, Plastics (free flap), Liver resection (all within last 3 years)
- Charge Nurse Experience: Preferred
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience in Orthopedics, OB/GYN, Thoracic Surgery, ENT Surgery, Urology, and Plastic Surgery

- Indiana RN Restriction: Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS) who are exempt and may work past this date
- Orientation: Facility-specific orientation packets and safety modules required prior to start, including mandatory completion of up to 22 online modules for some roles
- Documentation: Timely completion and submission of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality forms required
- Driver’s License or Passport: Valid, clear copy required for identification
- Insurance: Proof of auto insurance required only for Hospice specialty (not applicable here)
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for an Operating Room Registered Nurse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The role requires a minimum of 2 years recent OR nursing experience across a variety of surgical specialties, Indiana RN licensure or compact license with fingerprinting, and multiple certifications including BCLS. The position involves day shifts with significant call hours and requires completion of extensive background checks, health screenings, immunizations, and facility-specific orientation and competency requirements. First-time travelers are welcome, but local candidates are not accepted. There is a restriction on Indiana RNs effective late 2024, with exceptions for perioperative and ambulatory roles.
