Description

Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work in PACU Holding with post-operative patients who are fully recovered and awaiting disposition (discharge or transfer to a bed upstairs).
  • Float to Med Surg PRN as needed.
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM (no weekends, holidays, or call).
  • Patient population includes post-op ortho, neuro, GYN, general cases, and others needing observation.
  • Day/evening nurse-to-patient ratio: 5:1 (stretch 6-7). Night ratio: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in).
  • Scrubs provided.
  • Must be located more than 75 miles from the facility (no local candidates).
  • Orientation provided in PACU Extended Stay.
  • Epic experience required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Post-operative nursing experience.
  • Proficient in interpretation of cardiac dysrhythmias.
  • Experience with total joint replacement care.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to float to Med Surg as needed.
  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers accepted.
  • Must complete all health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing.

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and education verification.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal.
  • Immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive, completed series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season.
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year.
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required.

Documentation and Verification

  • Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 past employments).
  • References (2 within last 3 years) required for direct hire candidates.
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and attestation forms.
  • State-specific checks including sex offender registry and Medicaid exclusion list.

Work Environment

  • Patients are post-operative, fully recovered, and awaiting disposition.
  • Support provided by Patient Care Technicians during shift.
  • Telemetry monitoring on unit.
  • No weekend, holiday, or on-call responsibilities.

This position is ideal for an RN with telemetry and post-op experience seeking a travel contract with a stable weekday schedule and no weekend or holiday shifts.
