Job Opportunity: Dialysis Registered Nurse
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Acute hemodialysis unit with 9 stations plus one isolation station.
- Day shift position (12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week, total 36 hours).
- Patient diagnoses include end-stage renal disease on dialysis, chronic kidney disease progressing to hemodialysis, acute kidney injury, peritoneal dialysis failure/infection, and transplant rejection requiring hemodialysis.
- No call or float requirements.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters.
- Self-scheduling available.
- Orientation: 24 hours total (12 hours ICU/offsite + 12 hours dialysis room/peritoneal dialysis).
- Scrubs provided.
Required Skills & Experience
- Valid Registered Nurse license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 2 years of dialysis experience, with dialysis experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- ACLS certification preferred.
- Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) or Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) preferred.
Patient Care Ratios & Unit Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:2.
- Hemodialysis room operates two shifts per day; patients transported via Patient Transport.
- ICU/PCU and bedside treatments require 1:1 care for patients on ventilators, titratable IV drips, or airborne isolation.
Equipment & Systems
- Must have recent experience with Fresenius acute hemodialysis equipment and Baxter peritoneal dialysis equipment.
- Familiarity with Fresenius T machines, CliC and Bibag systems, and Marcor Millenium HX portable reverse osmosis machines.
- Unit uses Pyxis for medication, EPIC Dimensions for documentation, and Voalte phones for nurse communication.
Scheduling & Shift Details
- Shift: Day (6:45 AM to 7:15 PM), 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, totaling 36 hours.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
- No call or float required.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check required within 6 months of start.
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physician-signed TB questionnaire required.
- Required immunizations/titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella. Declinations not accepted for measles.
- Physical exam not required for this crisis profile.
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season; exemptions require mask-wearing on campus.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required for highest degree earned relevant to nursing.
- Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency required within 72 hours of start.
- Color blindness testing required within 1 year.
- Medication safety training and annual compliance training required.
- Various facility-specific documents and agreements must be completed prior to start, including confidentiality and hospital policies acknowledgment.
- Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire).
Orientation & Training
- 24-hour orientation split between ICU/offsite and dialysis room/peritoneal dialysis.
- Medication safety module completion required prior to or shortly after start.
- Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist required for North Carolina travel candidates.
- Annual mandatory education and compliance training required.
Additional Notes
- No prior travel experience required.
- Locals accepted.
- Days off may be arranged as schedule allows based on department needs.
- Contract staff may be reassigned mid-contract to centralized office or other units as needed.
Required Licensure & Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse license valid in North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred but not mandatory.
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with acute hemodialysis experience seeking a 13-week travel contract in North Carolina with day shifts and no call requirements.
