Description
Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Call Requirement: 40-60 hours of call over a 6-week schedule, including holidays
- Average Daily Surgical Case Volume: 35 cases
- Operating Rooms: 22 rooms available
- Special Equipment: DaVinci XI robotic system
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in liver transplant surgery (HARD STOP)
- Must be able to independently scrub liver recipient transplants
- Experience with large open belly cases including:
- General surgery
- Urology
- Thoracic
- Gynecology
- Plastics
- Whipple procedure
- Liver resection
- Free flap surgeries
- Proficient in scrub and aseptic techniques
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with large open belly cases and general scrub experience
- Proficient in aseptic technique
- Experience with Whipple procedures, liver resection, and free flap surgeries
- Surgical scrub experience in urology, thoracic, gynecology, and plastics
- Transplant surgery experience
Licensure
- Online verification of license required within 30 days before start date
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam completed within 12 months of start date
- Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start date
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start date (N95 or approved respirators)
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine preferred but not required
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and competency exams
Background & Documentation
- Background check within 90 days of start, including:
- 7-year work/living history
- SSN trace, county, state, national sex offender checks
- Education verification
- Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter
Additional Notes
- Indiana residents will not be eligible to sign new contracts in this specialty at this facility effective March 1, 2026
- Candidates must complete all required facility-specific forms and orientation packets prior to start
- On-site fit testing is limited and requires prior approval
- Call and holiday coverage are mandatory components of this assignment
This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with specialized liver transplant surgical skills seeking a travel contract in a high-volume, advanced surgical environment.
