Description

Registered Nurse – Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in a cardiac medicine ICU setting.
  • Must be familiar with Swan-Ganz catheters, vasoactive drips, arterial lines, advanced heart failure management, and post-procedure care including STEMIs and TAVRs.
  • Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM).
  • Schedule includes every other weekend and every other holiday.
  • Time off: Maximum 40 hours approved; no time off approval around Labor Day.
  • Must adhere to the facility’s float policy.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia (VA license pending submissions accepted).
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Coronary Care Unit (CCU) or cardiac medicine ICU.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Strong familiarity with Swan-Ganz catheters.
  • Experience and familiarity with advanced heart failure (HF) management.
  • Experience and familiarity with post-procedure care for STEMIs and TAVRs.
  • Familiarity with cardiac medicine ICU environment and patient care.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Background checks: 7-year criminal history, education verification (BSN preferred; ASN minimum if no BSN), EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required and must be current.
  • Fingerprinting required for certain behavioral health units; may be required on a case-by-case basis.
  • Official transcripts required (photocopies of diplomas not accepted).
  • Proof of 2 clinical references required.
  • Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and updated annually.
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, attesting ability to meet physical demands of the position.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap (no exemptions allowed)
    • 2-step TB test or Qgold (Tspot not accepted), chest X-ray if positive.
    • Annual TB questionnaire if past positive.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations accepted for measles.
    • Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or antigen titer if antibody low/negative.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but must be documented.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions).
  • Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions.
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged.
  • Fit testing for patient-facing clinical roles will be completed onsite if required.
  • Various facility-specific compliance forms must be completed prior to start (e.g., release authorization, traveler compliance, TB screening).

Additional Notes

  • Shift offers 36 or 48 hours per week, with this position specifically offering 36 hours/week.
  • Orientation includes competency exams and medication/pharmacology testing as applicable.
  • No time off approval around Labor Day; maximum 40 hours time off allowed during contract.

This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs with strong cardiac ICU skills seeking a 13-week travel assignment on nights in Virginia.
