Pediatric IV Therapy Vascular Access Team - Registered Nurse
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must have ultrasound-guided IV placement and vein finder experience.
- Experience on a pediatric vascular access team required.
- Pediatric Vascular Access Specialist (VAS) experience required, including Hematology-Oncology, ICU, and care for pediatric to adult populations.
- IV placement skills required.
- Weekend shifts required.
- Shift rotation includes day and night 12-hour shifts with guaranteed 36 hours per week.
- Shift times rotate between:
- 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM
- 3:00 PM – 3:30 AM

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
- Minimum 2 years of vascular access experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience working with pediatric patients.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Ultrasound-guided IV placement experience.
- Vein finder experience.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, cleared to work with no restrictions.
- Immunizations and titers required prior to start:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer.
- Varicella - proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B - must meet one of the accepted documentation options (series + titer, declination, etc.).
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap - Tdap given after age 11 required; declinations not accepted.
- Negative TB test (T-Spot or QuantiFERON blood test within 90 days prior to start) or 2-step skin test as per facility policy.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season (8/1 – 3/31).
- COVID-19 vaccination series or approved exemption required; seasonal COVID vaccine preferred but not mandatory.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (not required for advanced practice nurses).
- Respiratory safety clearance required for all travelers; facility-specific fit testing completed onsite.
Background and Documentation
- 10-year criminal background check required, including aliases and multiple federal/state databases.
- Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance required within 6 months of start date.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Employment application with 10-year work history; gaps over 30 days require explanation.
- Two professional references from two separate employers within the last three places of employment.
- Verification of professional certifications and licenses within 30 days of start date.
- Proof of name change documentation if applicable.
- Facility-specific onboarding packet to be completed approximately 2 weeks prior to start.

- Locals within 50 miles accepted.
- Parking available with discounted rates and shuttle service; night shift parking is free.
- Scrub color: any solid color allowed on all units except OR (provided).
- Candidates must complete required competency exams related to pediatric pharmacology and unit-specific skills.
- Flu and COVID vaccine exemption forms have specific submission and approval processes.
- Facility requires timely submission of certain forms and documentation to avoid delays or removal from assignment.
