Description

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Beaufort, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Work primarily on Medical Surgical (Med Surg) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) floors; floating between these units is required.
  • Patient ratios typically 1:5 or 1:6.
  • Shift schedule includes weekdays, every other weekend, floating, and holidays as needed.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.
  • Must be willing to work within a 50-mile radius restriction.
  • Electronic Medical Record system used: Meditech.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Experience working in Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Criminal background check within 6 months prior to start (or within 30 days for new candidates).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals.
  • Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification required.
  • Completion of approximately 81 Relias training modules prior to first shift and orientation (up to 8 hours allowed for orientation).
  • Badge photo meeting facility standards required.
  • Signed job description and confidentiality agreements required.
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands of the position.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination form)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual questionnaire for most units)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: titer or 2 vaccines with boosters or declination form
    • Hepatitis B: positive titer or vaccine series; declination form if negative
    • Varicella: titer or 2 vaccines with boosters or declination form
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination form required year-round
    • COVID vaccination or declination form required
  • Drug testing: 10-panel within 6 months prior to start (or within 30 days for new candidates); instant tests not accepted.
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
  • Performance evaluations required if previously completed assignments through any agency.
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluations required as applicable.

Additional Notes

  • Facility maintains strict compliance standards and will not accept any license or background issues.
  • Candidates must be prepared to float between Med Surg and PCU units.
  • Orientation and training modules are mandatory before starting clinical shifts.
