Description
Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: 4x12 hour shifts, rotating day (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) and night (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Floating: Required
Local Candidates: Not accepted; must live more than 75 miles away
First Time Travelers: Accepted if patient ratio experience requirement is met
Unit & Patient Population
- High volume MedSurg/Telemetry unit
- Patient ratio typically 1:5 to 1:7 (1:6 experience required)
- Complex care unit including medicine, orthopedic overflow, and complex long-term patients
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- Valid RN license in New York
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience managing a 1:6 patient ratio
- Charge nurse experience
- EPIC charting experience
- Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
- Heparin protocols
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Tracheostomy management
Required Certifications
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (Surface AB positive titer, completed series or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year (not required annually)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background & Verification
- 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start (felony checks included)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
- Education verification from primary source required (no hard copy degrees accepted)
- Foreign equivalency evaluation required if education obtained internationally
- Transcript/diploma required if no education verification on file
- Employment application required
- Work history verification required (at least 2 past employments verified)
- References required for some candidates (2 references within 3 years)
- Color blindness testing required (one-time)
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and various attestations/forms
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: navy bottoms, navy or white tops
- Facility uses EPIC for charting
- Must be able to handle a high volume, complex patient care environment
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required, but first-time travelers must meet patient ratio experience
This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg/Telemetry RNs comfortable with complex patient care, charge responsibilities, and working in a fast-paced tertiary care hospital setting.
