Registered Nurse (Med Surg/Telemetry - Infusion/Oncology)

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit: Medical-Surgical Telemetry, 8N Infusion/Oncology
Beds on Unit: 27

Unit Overview

• Patient population includes oncology/hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, failure to thrive, weakness, and other complex acute care patients.
• No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge required; internal nurses handle treatment needs.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day/Evening: 1:4-5
  • Night: 1:6 (can be 1:7 if short staffed)
• Nurse aides support with ratios of 1:7-9 (day/evening) and 1:14 (night).
• Respiratory therapists available 24/7 for multi-unit coverage; may manage continuous CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen.
• Centralized telemetry techs monitor and read cardiac strips; RNs are expected to be telemetry aware but do not read strips themselves.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license.
• BLS (AHA) certification required.
• Acute care experience with comfort managing complex patients.
• Experience managing and titrating drips (insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, octreotide) and blood transfusions.
• Ability and willingness to titrate drips as part of nursing duties.
• Prior travel experience preferred but not mandatory.
• Must not be part of a travel pair or accept travel pairs.

Responsibilities & Expectations

• May be asked to step into Charge Nurse role if comfortable, especially on night shift. Charge nurse takes a modified patient assignment.
• Floating primarily within med-surg units; occasional short shifts (4 hours) outside med-surg for observer or helping hands tasks.
• Must clock in and out at the facility.
• Orientation includes 1 day of computer training/CBT/regulatory and one 12-hour floor shift.

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Night shift hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM.
• Scheduling attempts to accommodate block scheduling but cannot guarantee it. Flexibility to work variable schedules (e.g., 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM) may be requested.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
• Holiday requirement: 2 out of 3 holidays during winter; every other holiday at other times.
• No call or standby requirements.
• Dress code: any color scrubs allowed; no logos from other health systems.

Additional Notes

• Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have ended employment at least 6 months prior to submission.
