Job Opportunity: RN Medical Center - Surgical Room (Tower)
Position Details
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 8-hour day shift

Patient and Case Information
- Average 10 cases per day
- Patient types include:
- Cardiac and thoracic surgeries such as CABG, TAVR, valve replacements
- Robotic thoracic cases (lobectomy, hernia repair)
- Generator exchanges, lead extractions
- Heart transplants
- Femoral-popliteal bypass
- Surgical team consists of two RNs per case (circulator and med RN); travelers will circulate only
- Patient ratio: 1:1
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Skills and Experience
- Strong cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) background required
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance in complex cardiac and thoracic cases
- Experience in a fast-paced environment
- Anesthesia Techs must be able to operate machines for blood gases, TEEs, and ultrasounds (specific machine knowledge not required)
Orientation and Training
- 2 weeks of orientation provided
Scheduling and On-Call
- Start times:
- RN: 5:00 AM - 6:30 AM
- Tech/Surgical Assist: 5:30 AM - 6:30 AM
- Anesthesia Tech: 5:30 AM
- Weekend rotation: on-call only
- On-call requirements:
- Once per month weekend 24-hour call (Saturday 7:00 AM to Sunday 7:00 AM)
- Up to once per week end-of-shift call with 30-minute response time
- No sleep room available during on-call
- Time off: Up to 7 days approved; additional time requires approval
- Holidays: On-call only, as needed
- Fatigue policy: Maximum 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
Support and Team Structure
- Department supervisor and manager available
- Team lead without case assignment
- 24/7 anesthesia support
- Surgical assistant lead to assist with instrumentation and preference cards
- 24/7 house supervisor
- Weekend support includes a small program staff with shared supervisor and other RNs/techs/FA’s
Equipment and Systems
- EPIC charting system required (not required for Anesthesia Tech)
- Alaris infusion pumps
- Pyxis medication dispensing system
- Da Vinci XI robotic surgical system
Floating
- No floating for RN, ORT, or Surgical Assist roles
- Anesthesia Tech will float between CVOR, Main OR, and Cath Lab

- Scrub color provided
- Must document pain level before and after administering pain medications; must adhere to pain score protocols and obtain orders if pain level exceeds medication indication
