Description

Pediatric IV Therapy Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work as a Pediatric IV Therapy RN on a vascular access team.
  • Experience required in ultrasound-guided IV placement and use of vein finder technology.
  • Must have pediatric vascular access experience, preferably from a dedicated children's hospital setting.
  • Patient population includes pediatric to adult patients, including Hematology/Oncology and ICU units.
  • Rotate shifts with 12-hour shifts covering day and night hours.

Schedule

  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week.
  • Shift rotation includes:
    • 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
    • 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM
    • 3:00 PM – 3:30 AM
  • Shift length: 12 hours.
  • Weekend work required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Massachusetts.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 2 years of vascular access experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients.
  • Proficient in ultrasound-guided IV placement.
  • Experience using vein finder technology.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Licensure

  • Valid Massachusetts RN license.
  • License verification must be completed within 30 days of start date.

Certifications (as applicable to this role)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Other certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, or specialty certifications may be required depending on unit assignment but are not mandatory for this position unless specified by the unit.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 10-year criminal background check within 6 months prior to start, including nationwide and state-specific checks.
  • Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance required within 6 months of start date.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Proof of name change documentation if applicable.
  • Employment application with 10-year work history; gaps over 30 days require explanation.
  • Two professional references from two separate employers within the last three places of employment.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared to work with no restrictions.
  • Immunizations and/or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – 2 vaccinations or positive titer.
    • Varicella – 2 vaccinations or positive titer.
    • Hepatitis B – series and/or declination or positive titer.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap – must be current; declinations not accepted.
  • Negative TB test (T-Spot or QuantiFERON blood test within 90 days prior to start or 2-step skin test).
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually (must be documented by November 14).
  • COVID-19 initial vaccine series or approved exemption required; seasonal COVID vaccine preferred but not mandatory.
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (not required for advanced practice nurses).

Additional Requirements

  • RespSafety clearance required for all travelers; facility-specific fit testing completed onsite.
  • Competency exams including pediatric pharmacology competency required.
  • Completion of facility-specific onboarding and data collection forms prior to start.
  • Compliance with facility-specific exemption forms for COVID and flu vaccines if applicable.

Notes

  • Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted.
  • Rate differential applies for local hires (not included here).
  • Must be prepared to work rotating shifts including nights and weekends.
