Job Opportunity: RRT Pediatrics (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Position involves working in PICU, Pediatrics, Adult ICU, and occasionally adult floor therapy.
  • Must be available for a full orientation week.
  • No call requirement.
  • Weekend work required every other weekend.
  • Willingness to work with patient transport at times.
  • Hospital size: 440 beds, with an average patient load of about 15 per day (varies by acuity, lower in ICUs).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Pediatric Respiratory Therapist license in Michigan
  • Minimum 1 year of Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients
  • Experience working with Adult patients
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS certification
  • NRP certification

Orientation & Training

  • Full orientation week attendance is mandatory.
  • Leader interviews are part of the onboarding process.

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each.
  • Weekend shifts every other weekend.
  • No call responsibilities.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18, with multiple components (SSN trace, national/statewide searches, education verification, MVR, etc.).
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start.
  • Michigan Central Registry Clearance required (wet signature only) for all pediatric and RRT placements.
  • Education verification with copy of highest degree or diploma.
  • Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
  • One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Fit mask test required (Honeywell DC365N95HC), with on-site fit testing appointment arranged prior to or on first day.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer each)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or documented declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required.
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after November 1; proof or exemption must be submitted by December 1.
  • 10-panel drug test including marijuana/THC within 30 days of start (instant/rapid tests acceptable if 10-panel).

Documentation & Compliance Forms

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Proof of name change if applicable (legal documentation).
  • Code of Conduct review and signed acknowledgment.
  • Appearance Standards Policy review.
  • Vaccine exemption forms if applicable (medical or confidential vaccine exemption).
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam passed within 1 year prior to assignment start.
  • Competency exam in specialty passed within 1 year prior to assignment start.

Additional Notes

  • Assignments are based on an RVU system.
  • The facility typically staffs 11 Respiratory Therapists on night shifts.
  • Candidates must complete MI Fingerprint Consent and Disclosure Form ASAP to schedule fingerprinting.
  • Fingerprint fee is paid out of pocket and reimbursable.
  • Fingerprinting results typically take 1-3 business days.
  • Candidates must submit the Michigan Central Registry Clearance Request Form with a wet signature within 72 hours of signing the contract to avoid delays.
