Description

Registered Nurse - Orthopedic Surgery

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Adult Medical-Surgical (4 West)
  • Number of Beds: 34
  • Staffing (Day Shift): 1 Charge RN, 6-7 RNs, 3 CNAs, 1 HUC
  • Staffing (Night Shift): 1 Charge RN, 5-7 RNs, 2 CNAs, 1 HUC
  • Patient Ratios: Day shift 1:4-6, Night shift 1:5-7
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Cerner
  • Typical Procedures: IV fluids, tube feeds, PEG feedings, IV antibiotics
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
  • Floating Areas: Other med-surg units, occasionally holding pod of Emergency Department
  • Unit Guidelines:
    • Attend huddles at shift start (06:50 AM or 18:50 PM)
    • Must clock out/in for meal breaks
    • Clock in no earlier than 06:38 or 18:38 depending on shift
    • Weekend shifts: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per pay period

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Orthopedic Surgery, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Telemetry experience
  • Ability to assess orthopedic patients and escalate changes in acuity appropriately

Personality & Work Style

  • Team player willing to assist CNAs and fellow nurses
  • Able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced med-surg environment
