OR Tech / Surgical Tech - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Glen Burnie, Maryland
Specialty: Surgical Services
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Shift: Rotating day shifts, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:45-19:15 / 09:00-21:30)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Ability to scrub cases in General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Gynecology, Genitourinary, and Robotics.
  • Endovascular experience preferred but not required.
  • Patient population: Adults to Geriatrics.
  • Operating rooms: 11 rooms with a 1:1 staff-to-room ratio.
  • Holidays: Required to work or be on call as scheduled (approximately 1 holiday during contract).
  • Weekends: 6 weekend shifts during the 12-week contract (work or call).
  • Floating: Required within specialty as needed.
  • On-call: Required on weekends, may be assigned 8 or 12-hour call shifts.

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to scrub General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Gynecology, Genitourinary, and Robotics surgical cases.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • I9 attestation and E-Verify compliance.
  • Background check: 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, updated annually. Felonies within 5 years are disqualifying.
  • Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start.
  • Verification of previous 5 years of work history (attestation accepted if necessary).
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted).
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start; must be medically cleared to wear respirator.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working with children).
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters required.
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination accepted (series not accepted).
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters required.
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
  • Tuberculosis screening: Negative QGOLD or TSPOT within 1 year or 2-step PPD as applicable; must be updated annually.
  • COVID-19 vaccine not currently required for this location; if required, medical/religious exemptions accepted.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules prior to start (unpaid).
  • Facility badge photo required (passport-style with solid white/beige background).
  • Completion of vehicle identification form prior to start.
  • Completion of Pyxis Access Request Form after learning modules.
  • Signing of confidentiality and dress code agreements prior to start.
  • Facility will provide first day instructions and IT access information.
  • Portfolio Epic training test-out form may be required depending on prior Epic experience.

Additional Notes

  • Rotation schedule depends on OR case scheduling and department needs; primary need is day shift coverage.
  • Candidate must be flexible for floating and on-call weekend shifts.
  • All documentation and compliance must be completed timely to avoid delays in credentialing and start date.

This position is ideal for experienced Surgical Technologists seeking a travel contract with diverse surgical case exposure in a high-volume adult and geriatric patient setting.
