Description

Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Brookfield, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse with experience in Operating Room (OR), Pre-Op, and Post-Op care
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, day shifts (either 7:00 AM–3:30 PM or 8:00 AM–4:30 PM)
  • Hours: 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day
  • No weekend shifts or on-call duties required
  • Must be able to flex between OR, Pre-Op, and Post-Op areas within scope of practice
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated
  • Local candidates accepted within a 40-mile radius
  • First-time travel nurses accepted with at least one prior travel assignment

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain efficient and timely patient flow throughout perioperative phases
  • Perform pre- and post-operative assessments and provide patient/family education on medications and treatments
  • Circulate during surgeries and procedural cases, supporting anesthesia and assisting physicians as needed
  • Administer medications, including critical care drugs, and perform airway management
  • Monitor patients for potential complications during peri- and post-procedure periods
  • Participate in patient admission, discharge, and development of discharge plans in collaboration with the care team
  • Document clinical information accurately in the EMR system, including vitals, medications, and patient condition
  • Provide thorough handoff reports to prep and recovery nurses
  • Adhere strictly to sterile and aseptic techniques during procedures

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Background checks within 1 year, including SS trace, county searches (7 years), nationwide, and sex offender registry
  • Annual verification of EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG exclusions
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with specific protocols for past positive TB)
  • Immunization or titer proof for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
  • 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination during flu season (Oct 1–Mar 31)
  • Professional references:
    • 2 for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles
    • 1 for per diem non-acute care roles
  • Annual competency exams including medication/pharmacology testing and skills checklist

Additional Notes

  • No weekend or on-call requirements
  • Must be able to work full-time day shifts Monday through Friday
  • Flexibility to float between OR and perioperative areas as needed within RN scope of practice

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs seeking a travel contract with a stable weekday schedule and no weekend or on-call duties.
