Description
Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Nights & Every Other Weekend
Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (Night shift)
Hours: 36 hours per week
Unit Overview
- 65-bed Emergency Department with pod-based design
- Separate pediatric pod and separate Acute Mental Health area
- Patient census approximately 230 visits per day
- Clinician to patient ratio: 1:4
- Patient population: All ages
- Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC – ASAP
- Floating required
- Rotating shifts required only for day shift (7a-7p, 11a-11p, 7p-7a) when requested; night position does not rotate
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Nursing experience
- General ED nursing skills including:
- Patient assessment and documentation
- IV therapy and phlebotomy
- EKG and cardiac monitoring
- Point of care testing
- Splinting
- Critical thinking
- Patient education
Certifications Required (Must have on board before start)
- AHA Certified BLS (American Heart Association Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) strongly preferred
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) strongly preferred
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Massachusetts
- Primary source verification required within 30 days of start date
- MA Conditional Licenses are NOT accepted
- Both NURSYS and Board of Nursing verification required
Additional Onboarding Requirements
- Fit Test for N95 respirator within 365 days of start date, updated annually (no exemptions allowed)
- Respirator Medical Clearance attestation required if fit test is needed
- MGB Medication Exam (80% passing within 365 days)
- MGB Advanced Dysrhythmia Exam (80% passing)
- Documentation of immunity or vaccination for MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
- TB test documentation within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test) and updated if break >6 months
- Physician Health Statement within 365 days of start date, updated if break >6 months
- Criminal background check within 45 days prior to start, updated if break >6 months
- Massachusetts CORI background check within 30 days prior to start, updated if break >6 months
- National Sex Offender Check within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
- Exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid) within 30 days prior to start and annually
- Education verification of highest degree achieved
- Social Security Number trace for past 7 years
- Skills checklist completed within 1 year of submission
- Two professional references within 4 years, including at least one supervisor or higher
- Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state
- Candidate submission coversheet required for initial assignment
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current ACLS certification
- Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current TNCC certification

- Rotation to day shifts is infrequent and only upon request
