Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Position
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7pm - 7am)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks
Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
Job Summary
- Float RN position primarily on general medical and surgical units.
- Patient population includes diverse diagnoses such as chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, IBD), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. diff), neurological conditions (stroke, dementia, TBI), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
- Patients may undergo procedures including colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation).
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
- Floating limited to other medical units only.
Responsibilities
- Provide general medical-surgical nursing care including assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
- Utilize electronic health records (Epic) and equipment such as IV pumps (Hospira), wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, telemetry monitoring, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, SCDs for VTE prevention, and heat/cooling pads.
- Manage IV therapy including heparin and insulin drips.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care settings
- At least 1 year of Med Surg experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience managing heparin drips
- Experience managing insulin drips
Orientation & Training
- Jump Start orientation program: 1 day general hospital orientation plus approximately 5 days nursing orientation including Epic training.
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation (not applicable if returning within 12 months).
Additional Information
- Call-off policy allows cancellation up to 24 hours before the start of the assignment.
- Local clinicians (within 50 miles) may be subject to a rate adjustment.
- Candidates should disclose any required time off during the assignment.
- This is a float position requiring flexibility to work in various medical units as needed.
